Province Names Local Co-ordinating Organizations for HomeShare Program
NOTE: The list of HomeShare co-ordinating organizations follows this release.
Ten community-based service providers are now reviewing applicants who want to support people with disabilities to live where and how they choose through the new HomeShare program.
These co-ordinating organizations, announced today, June 17, are helping ensure safe shared living arrangements across Nova Scotia through HomeShare – a commitment under the Nova Scotia Human Rights Remedy – which launched in January.
They will recruit and screen providers, facilitate matches and provide ongoing support to both participants and providers.
“Strong local leadership is essential to the success of HomeShare,” said Premier Tim Houston. “These organizations bring deep community knowledge, trusted relationships and experience supporting people with disabilities. Together with the Province, they will help ensure HomeShare is delivered safely, thoughtfully and in a way that reflects the needs and strengths of each region.”
The organizations will work closely with the Department of Opportunities and Social Development and Nova Scotia Community Living Organizations to ensure consistent program standards while allowing flexibility to reflect local needs and circumstances.

Quotes:
“HomeShare is about people and about creating options that feel right for them in their everyday lives. These co-ordinating organizations will be at the heart of that work, building relationships, understanding what matters to each person and helping create matches that feel natural and supportive. By grounding this work in communities across Nova Scotia, we’re creating more flexible, personal options for people to live where and how they choose.”
— Susan Corkum-Greek, Minister of Opportunities and Social Development
“HomeShare works best when it is grounded in strong relationships and community connections. Organizations with deep roots in their communities are well positioned to foster these connections, provide ongoing support and help build the foundation for people to live good lives in the communities they choose. These organizations are committed to building truly inclusive communities and offering more choices for how and where people want to live their lives. NSCLO is proud to support their efforts to deliver high-quality services, including HomeShare supports.”
— Lora Church, Executive Director, Nova Scotia Community Living Organizations
