Families in East Preston will soon have more options and improved access to child care.
The Province is providing about $2.1 million to help create up to 48 new child-care spaces at the East Preston Day Care Centre. This project is part of provincial and federal efforts to expand access to child care, supported through the Canada–Nova Scotia Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care Agreement.
“Creating more child-care spaces in African Nova Scotian communities like East Preston means our children grow up in early learning environments that reflect and respect who they are. It also means supporting parents, creating jobs and strengthening our whole community,” said Twila Grosse, Minister of African Nova Scotian Affairs and MLA for Preston, on behalf of Brendan Maguire, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development.
The new centre will be built next to the current location on Highway 7 and will provide spaces for infants, toddlers and preschoolers. It is expected to open in April.
Quotes:
“Investments like these are meaningful for families in East Preston. By partnering with the Province of Nova Scotia, we are delivering more child-care spaces – helping to lower costs, ease the pressure on parents and give children the best start in life.”
— Anna Gainey, Canada’s Secretary of State for Children and Youth
“These past few years, we have seen some amazing growth within our organization. This growth has allowed us to provide quality care to even more families within and around our community, giving young families the ability to return to work or school. This newest expansion will allow us to continue to support more employment opportunities within our communities. We are thankful and blessed to be given this opportunity to continue to grow. Thank you to all involved but most importantly thank you to all of the ECEs (early childhood educators) who continue to show up each day with hearts full of love and support for the children we care for each day.”
— Trina Fraser, Executive Director, East Preston Day Care Centre
