A new early learning and child-care centre at the Inverness Education Centre/Academy will give local families more access to child care.
The 104-space project is a partnership between the Province and the Strait Regional Centre for Education, which will maintain the building once it is constructed. The centre will offer spaces and programs for infants, toddlers and preschoolers.
“Building a new child-care centre in partnership with the Inverness school means making child care convenient and affordable for families,” said Kyle MacQuarrie, MLA for Inverness, on behalf of Brendan Maguire, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development. “This investment shows that our government understands that our community has struggled with access to child care and that we are taking meaningful action to address it.”
The project is part of provincial and federal efforts to expand access to child care, supported through the Canada-Nova Scotia Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care Agreement.
Quotes:
“Canadian families everywhere deserve child care that is affordable and accessible. Today’s announcement is great news for families in Inverness. Adding to the more than 8,900 child-care spaces already announced in the province, these 104 new spaces will help ease the pressure on parents and ensure children have places where they can learn and grow in their communities. These are generational investments in families, our economy and in our children.”
— Anna Gainey, Canada’s Secretary of State for Children and Youth
“The establishment of the child-care centre at Inverness Education Centre/Academy represents a significant step in supporting families by expanding access to licensed child care in the local community. We are committed to working collaboratively with our provincial partners, school leadership and regional staff to ensure its successful implementation.”
