Progress Monitoring Committee Releases Annual Report
NOTE: This release is issued on behalf of the Progress Monitoring Committee.
The committee monitoring implementation of the final report recommendations of the Mass Casualty Commission released its second annual progress report today, October 9.
The Progress Monitoring Committee rated progress made over the past year in four areas: community safety and well-being, public health, policing reform and gender-based and intimate partner violence.
“The committee has now been in place for just over two years, and a lot of work has happened in that time,” said Myra Freeman, Chair of the Progress Monitoring Committee. “The memories of those who were taken from us on April 18 and 19, 2020, continue to guide our work. There is still a lot of work ahead, but I am encouraged by the high priority the federal and provincial governments, and the RCMP, are putting on addressing the commission’s recommendations.”
The committee received 14 presentations from the provincial and federal governments and the RCMP, and rated progress in emergency readiness, mental health support, victim support, regulatory oversight of health professions, RCMP governance, public warning systems, and support for victims of gender-based violence as it pertains to provincial emergency response.
