Local cadet leaders and youth will join Chris Palmer, Ministerial Assistant for Military Relations, at Province House in Halifax to celebrate Cadet Day on Saturday, October 4. The 2025 event will also mark the 50th anniversary of female participation in the Canadian Cadet Organizations.

“The cadet program provides young people with valuable opportunities to face challenges together and develop skills that will serve them throughout their lives, regardless of their gender or background,” said Mr. Palmer, on behalf of Barbara Adams, Minister responsible for Military Relations. “As we look back on 50 years of female youth participation, we see the impact women have had on the organization and our communities and the importance of committing to equity, diversity and inclusion.”

Cadet Day, observed annually across Nova Scotia, honours the positive impact of the cadet program in shaping community-minded future leaders.

The Cadet Day event will take place from 10 a.m. to noon and include remarks from local cadet leaders and youth, a flag-raising ceremony and a reading of the Sea, Army, Air and Navy League Cadets Day Act. The ceremony will also acknowledge the program’s success in fostering lifelong fitness, volunteerism and citizenship.

Currently, Nova Scotia is home to 74 cadet units, with about 3,000 youth aged 12 to 18 enrolled.
