Minister’s Statement on National Acadian Day
NOTE: The following is a statement from Colton LeBlanc, Minister of Acadian Affairs and Francophonie.
National Acadian Day is today, August 15. It is a moment to celebrate the strength, pride and perseverance of a people whose roots run deep in Nova Scotia. It’s a day to honour the French language, culture and traditions that have shaped this province for more than 400 years – and continue to enrich our communities today.
As Minister of Acadian Affairs and Francophonie and as a proud Acadian, I am honoured to join our vibrant Acadian community in marking this special day.
Our government will continue to champion Acadian culture here in Nova Scotia and beyond, and we’ve also taken important steps to strengthen our cultural connections. Last October, we became an observer member of the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie, an exciting step that opens new doors for cultural exchange and global collaboration.
I continue to be inspired by the spirit of our communities – their creativity, resilience and unshakable sense of identity. Whether through music, food, language or shared traditions, Acadians breathe life into every corner and sector of this province.
On this National Acadian Day, I encourage all Nova Scotians to take part in the festivities and discover the beauty of l’Acadie. Thank you to the many volunteers and community leaders who make these celebrations possible.
Vive l’Acadie!
