Families in Sydney will benefit from more access to child care with plans underway to build a new 104-space early learning and child-care centre on the Cape Breton University (CBU) campus.
The centre, a partnership between the Province and CBU, will be built on university property behind the new medical school. It will offer spaces and programs for infants, toddlers and preschoolers.
“We’re improving access to child care, which means families will have the support they need close to home and work,” said Brendan Maguire, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development. “Investing in affordable child care helps families keep more money in their pockets while their children get the best possible start.”
The centre is part of the Province’s broader efforts to expand access to child care, supported through the Canada-Nova Scotia Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care Agreement.
Quotes:
“The new child-care centre on the CBU campus will make a big difference for parents and students in the community, helping them save thousands of dollars on child-care costs. We are working with the Province of Nova Scotia to add to the nearly 7,000 child-care spaces already announced, so families have access to high-quality and affordable child care no matter where they live.”
— Patty Hajdu, federal Minister of Jobs and Families
“We are thrilled to work with the Province to expand access to child care here at Cape Breton University. Access to affordable, high-quality child care is essential for families to thrive. Expanding our daycare program is about more than just increasing seats, it’s about supporting parents, empowering students and helping our community grow stronger together.”
— David Dingwall, President and Vice-Chancellor, Cape Breton University
