The Sydney Curling Club will soon have a new facility to meet growing interest in the sport and provide more space for community events.
The fully accessible space will feature six curling sheets, increasing the capacity by 50 per cent.
“Our government is proud to invest in infrastructure that promotes active living and supports the needs of our growing communities,” said Brian Comer, Minister of Addictions and Mental Health and MLA for Cape Breton East, on behalf of Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage Minister Dave Ritcey. “Cape Bretoners deserve a modern, welcoming facility where they can connect and curl.”
The Sydney Curling Club received $3 million from the Province for the energy efficient facility, which will replace the 115-year-old curling facility on George Street.
The new facility will allow Sydney to host larger curling tournaments, drawing visitors to the region and providing a boost to the tourism sector. It will also operate year round as a multi-purpose recreation and event space.
