Funding for Physical Activity Initiatives in Lunenburg County
The Province will help get Lunenburg County residents moving with grants that support a range of physical activity for people of all ages.
“Strong communities thrive when residents have opportunities to participate in physical activities,” said Becky Druhan, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development and MLA for Lunenburg West, on behalf of Timothy Halman, Minister of Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage. “These investments are creating healthy and active communities that are accessible for everyone to enjoy.”
The Municipality of the District of Lunenburg received funding for the following programs and projects that support people being active:
- the Active Smarter Kids program – promotes movement and physical activity during classes
- cycling initiatives, including a new mobility bicycle fleet pilot, a bike loan program and the installation of new bike racks across the municipality
- Park & Go – parking facilities at local trails and parks
- Storybook Trail – a park pathway where children and adults can explore stories as they walk
- Make Your Move at Work initiative – a program encouraging movement and healthy activities during the working day.
