The Province is investing in an outdoor community space for the residents of North Sydney with a grant announced today, October 25.

“This area of North Sydney is lacking an outdoor recreational space for residents. With this funding, the green space will be revitalized to support healthy, active living opportunities,” said Fred Tilley, MLA for Northside-Westmount, on behalf of Timothy Halman, Minister of Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage. “Visitors travelling on the Marine Atlantic ferry will also be able to enjoy the park, which is within walking distance to the terminal.”

The non-profit Victory Park Society is receiving funding to re-purpose a municipally owned green space in downtown North Sydney. Phase 1 of the project will include a splash pad and accessible playground.

Quotes:

“We are so thrilled to receive this funding from the Province. Together, with the support from CBRM and the almost $300,000 raised through the hard work of our dedicated volunteers, the Northside will now finally have access to a high-quality splash pad and playground to support active living for our residents. I want to thank everyone who played a role in making this possible.”
Ryan Duff, Chair, Victory Park Society

“I am elated to learn the Province has joined the municipality with a financial commitment. This is a big win, not only for the Northside, but all residents of the CBRM. I want to thank the Victory Park Society for their unwavering commitment to move this project forward.”
Earlene MacMullin, District 2 Councillor, Cape Breton Regional Municipality
