Funding for Recreation Facility in Lunenburg

Residents of Lunenburg County will see enhancements to the Lunenburg Tennis Club with a provincial grant.

“We understand the importance sports facilities play in our lives, and improvements like this will help the facility continue to serve residents for years to come,” said Economic Development Minister Susan Corkum-Greek, MLA for Lunenburg, on behalf of Allan MacMaster, Minister of Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage. “This investment will help upgrade the tennis courts with a rubberized acrylic surface, making it safer for all ages to play on.”

The Lunenburg Tennis Club launched a campaign in 2022 to celebrate its 100-year history and update the facility. Fundraising has resulted in improvements to court lights and an accessible washroom.

The resurfacing of the courts will begin this month.

This grant is part of a series of announcements taking place across the province.

Quotes:

“We have had wonderful support for our fundraising efforts from our membership and from the local community, but this is a huge project for the Lunenburg Tennis Club. Our heavily used courts are in need of a complete resurfacing, which is a very expensive process. Without the generous support of the Province through CCTH’s Recreation Facility Development Grant, we would not be able to undertake this project at this time.”
Carolyn McAllister, President, Lunenburg Tennis Club
