Residents and staff of the Mahone Bay Nursing Home have moved into a new, modern long-term care facility.
The new home has 96 single rooms, all with private washrooms. With 35 more spaces than the facility it replaces, more seniors in in the region will have access to long-term care close to home.
“The Mahone Bay Nursing Home is an important part of our community, caring for seniors and employing many people. This beautiful new home will allow residents to live with dignity and in comfort and provide a state-of-the-art workplace for the exceptional staff who work there,” said Economic Development Minister Susan Corkum-Greek, the MLA for Lunenburg, on behalf Seniors and Long-Term Care Minister Barbara Adams. “By adding more long-term care spaces, it will help meet the care needs of Lunenburg County residents for generations.”

Set in a tree-lined, park-like area, the three-storey building has six wings, each with 16 single rooms. The residents in each wing share a common space that has a kitchen, dining area and comfortable living area to enjoy social activities. The facility also has an occupational therapy and physiotherapy treatment room, a hair salon for residents, outdoor spaces and the Irene MacLeod Community Room – a large space for the use of residents, families, staff and community members.

The new Mahone Bay Nursing Home is part of the Province’s multi-year, phased plan that will see 5,700 new and improved single long-term care rooms built by 2032.
Building and improving more long-term care rooms is part of Action for Health, the Province’s strategic plan to improve healthcare. Building and renovating new facilities with single-bed rooms and ensuring seniors live with dignity and can age well are also commitments in the Seniors and Long-Term Care Minister’s mandate.
