Residents of Hants County will see accessibility upgrades to a well-established facility with a provincial grant announced today, June 10.

“Our government is committed to understanding accessibility barriers so we can prevent and remove them,” said Melissa Sheehy-Richard, MLA for Hants West, on behalf of Allan MacMaster, Minister of Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage. “This requires us to partner with community organizations to support their initiatives to create an equitable province for everyone.”

The Hantsport Memorial Community Centre received funding for accessibility improvements, including a barrier-free washroom and concrete ramp next to the outdoor tennis and pickleball courts. Managed by a non-profit organization, the centre has provided recreational, cultural and educational services to people of all ages and abilities for over 75 years.

This grant is part of a series of announcements taking place across the province.

“This funding allows us to provide a fully accessible washroom to our community members and visitors for the first time on our property, as well as to enhance the accessibility of our new community building and the tennis and pickleball courts at Hantsport Memorial Community Centre. Our board of directors and membership are excited to see these changes and additions and look forward to continuing to make our facilities and property more accessible to all.”
