Water, Wastewater Upgrades for Bridgewater

Upgrades to water and wastewater infrastructure in Bridgewater will improve water quality, help firefighters in emergencies and improve the efficiency of the wastewater treatment plant.

“It’s crucial that our communities have access to reliable water and wastewater services and that we work with our municipal counterparts to build a strong future for our province,” said Becky Druhan, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development and MLA for Lunenburg West, on behalf of John Lohr, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing. “Improving our water and wastewater infrastructure in Bridgewater and the surrounding area is a great step towards helping ensure a bright future for our communities.”

The funding will support two projects in Bridgewater:

• upgrades to existing water mains will connect St. Phillips Street from Victoria Road to North Park Street, adding new hydrants and additional water services; this will mean improved water services for residents and better water flow for firefighters

• new screening equipment for the town’s wastewater treatment plant will improve the plant’s efficiency and overall treatment capacity.

The Province is investing more than $3.19 million in the projects, with the municipality contributing $3.19 million.

The projects are part of the Municipal Capital Growth Program, a one-time $102-million investment in projects across Nova Scotia – a historic provincial investment in municipal infrastructure.
