Lunenburg County residents will see upgrades to two community facilities thanks to provincial grants.

“Community facilities have the power to bring people together in times of celebration, congregation and crisis,” said Becky Druhan, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development and MLA for Lunenburg West, on behalf of Allan MacMaster, Minister of Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage. “We understand the importance these spaces play in our lives, and this investment will help facilities continue to serve residents for many years to come.”

The Conquerall Bank Fire Department, a registered community comfort centre during emergencies, received funding to replace its septic system and install heat pumps, which have lowered heating costs and will allow the hall to be used as a cooling centre in the summer. The facility is home to firefighters, medical first responders and an auxiliary team who have served the community for more than 50 years.

The Simpson’s Corner Community Hall Society received funding to replace windows in the hall, which serves as a gathering space for potlucks, auctions, receptions and other functions.

These community grants are part of a series of announcements taking place across the province.

Quotes:

“The Conquerall Bank volunteer fire department provides a full range of emergency services, including firefighting, rescue and medical first response. Our fire hall also serves as a hub for community activities and an EMO registered comfort centre. This funding has been vital to our organization’s ability to replace the septic system and to allow the hall to remain open as a community facility and comfort centre. The installation of the heat pumps has allowed us to extend our comfort centre as a cooling centre in the summer months. The heat pumps have reduced our heating costs and reduced our dependency on fuel oil, reducing our overall carbon footprint. We are very grateful for the ongoing support as any time we do not have to fundraise means we have more time to help out the community.”
