More Public Housing for Western Nova Scotia
New public housing in western Nova Scotia will give up to 82 people a safe, affordable place to call home.
John Lohr, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, announced today, May 22, that 26 new modular housing units will be built in the next 12 months in Shelburne, Liverpool, Digby and Wedgeport.
“Our government is making the largest investment in public housing in over three decades to provide more Nova Scotians with safe and affordable housing,” said Minister Lohr. “We’re using modular construction to ensure these new homes are ready for individuals and families as quickly as possible.”
There will be a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom units, with 14 ground-floor units fully barrier-free.
Three of the four locations will get an eightplex, modular housing divided into eight separate residences. Projects include:
- an eightplex at 182 Clements Street, Shelburne
- an eightplex on land adjacent to 183/185 Old Port Mouton Road, Liverpool
- an eightplex at 90 Church and 132 Victoria streets, Digby
- a duplex on the site of Wedgehaven Apartments, 125 Chemin de l'Est, Wedgeport.
The Province is investing $11.8 million to construct these modulars, which are in addition to the 247 units previously announced, bringing the number of new public housing units in the province to 273. In total, this means new housing for more than 700 people.
