Residents in Victoria County communities will see renovations to community facilities and trails thanks to provincial grants announced today, May 13.

“It is investments in our early child-care spaces, wilderness trails and volunteer organizations that help foster true connections among one another,” said Keith Bain, MLA for Victoria-The Lakes, on behalf of Allan MacMaster, Minister of Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage. “We want to help support this important infrastructure and the communities they serve for years to come.”

The Taigh Cùraim Day Care Society received funding for exterior painting, eavestroughs and accessibility improvements, including power doors and ramps, at its daycare in Baddeck. The society also received funding for the addition of public washrooms on the Baddeck waterfront, a project with the local community centre and waterfront committee.

Other community facilities to be upgraded through provincial grants include:

  • the Boisdale Volunteer Fire Department will replace exterior siding
  • the Bay St. Lawrence Volunteer Fire Department will replace flooring, subflooring and tiles in the main hall, kitchen and bathroom areas
  • the Municipality of the County of Victoria received funding for accessible washrooms at its administration building
  • the St. Ann’s Bay Development Association will rehabilitate and develop an all-season foot trail
  • the Baddeck Valley Community Club will install heat pumps.

These community grants are part of a series of announcements taking place across the province.

Quotes:

“The community facility improvement grant, along with accessibility funding, are enabling us to make significant improvements to our space. Being on the waterfront and serving numerous community groups, it’s important to maintain and care for our infrastructure. The funding enables us to do this while making the space more accessible.”
