Kings County residents will see improvements to community facilities and walking trails thanks to provincial grants announced today, May 3.

“Infrastructure upgrades are critical in creating safe, healthy and accessible communities,” said John Lohr, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing and MLA for Kings North, on behalf of Allan MacMaster, Minister of Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage. “This investment will not only benefit local residents and visitors but ensure all people have full access to available services.”

The Municipality of the County of Kings received funding to connect the 110-kilometre Harvest Moon Trailway to the Grand-Pré National Historic Site. The municipality will also make accessibility improvements to its public spaces and buildings, including installing door openers.

Other community infrastructure will also be upgraded through provincial grants:

  • the Town of Wolfville received funding to improve the trail network at the Wolfville Watershed Nature Preserve
  • Wolfville Baptist Church will have an elevator installed
  • Landmark East School will make improvements to ramps and doors
  • Royal Canadian Legion Branch #74 in Wolfville and the Hants Border Community Club will each install a generator so the facilities can be used as comfort centres during extreme weather events and prolonged power outages.

These community grants are part of a series of announcements taking place across the province.

It is satisfying to know governments can work together to create more opportunities for residents and guests alike to enjoy active transportation, cultural destinations and year-round recreation in Kings County.
