Call for Nominations for 2023 Provincial Volunteer Awards
People can now nominate outstanding Nova Scotians for the 49th Provincial Volunteer Awards, an annual celebration of volunteers’ contributions to organizations and communities.
“Every day, Nova Scotians give their time, passion and expertise in communities across the province,” said Pat Dunn, Minister responsible for the Voluntary Sector. “The annual award ceremony is our way of honouring the contributions of volunteers who have made a positive difference in the lives of others.”
Nova Scotians can nominate people in three categories:
- the Youth Volunteer Award, for a volunteer aged 13 to 24
- the Family Volunteer Award, which honours a family of two people or more living in the same community
- the Nova Scotia Strong Award, recognizing resilience during a time of tragedy or struggle.
Award recipients are selected by a citizens’ committee, and a ceremony will be held in September to honour all volunteers.

Quotes:
“This award had significant meaning to our community. Being acknowledged by the wider community for our contributions is a form of acceptance and honour which contributes to integration into society while holding on to our identities. The day we received the award, it helped to inspire our volunteers and youth to do more, or to at least know they can do their part in helping to shape their environment.”
