Independent Board Chair Issues Finding of Discrimination

Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission

The chair in an independent human rights board of inquiry has found that a woman whose employment was terminated following complications in her pregnancy was discriminated against on the basis of sex (pregnancy).

Donald Murray released his decision in the matter of A.B. v. C.D. Law Offices Inc. on Tuesday, February 7. Mr. Murray removed all identifying information about the complainant, respondent and witnesses because of privacy concerns regarding the complainant’s personal medical information. Though there was no publication ban during the hearing, he asks the media to respect the privacy of the complainant.

The parties have reached a settlement and agreed the terms will remain confidential.
