Minister’s Statement on National Acadian Day
NOTE: The following is a statement from Acadian Affairs and Francophonie Minister Colton LeBlanc recognizing National Acadian Day today, August 15.
National Acadian Day is an opportunity to recognize more than 400 years of history and to celebrate the Acadian culture and traditions that are part of Nova Scotia’s rich heritage.
As Minister of Acadian Affairs and Francophonie, and as a proud Acadian, I am delighted to recognize, honour and celebrate our vibrant and resilient community. I am grateful to all those who contribute to the development of our culture and language.
Our government remains committed to sharing the history of Acadians, not only across our province, but around the world. Earlier this year, I was pleased to sign a memorandum of understanding with the State of Louisiana to strengthen our ties around our culture and history and to explore future opportunities.
Since becoming Minister, I have had the opportunity to visit several Acadian regions and meet with organizations and community members to better understand their unique challenges and opportunities. I look forward to continuing this important engagement.
We have much to celebrate in Nova Scotia, and in two years we will welcome Acadians, Francophones and Francophiles from around the world to Congrès mondial acadien 2024 in Argyle and Clare. Preparations are well underway, and I was proud to be present at Le Village historique acadien de la Nouvelle-Écosse in Lower West Pubnico last week to announce that our government is providing $2.5 million to support this historic event. We are so excited to bring together Acadians from around the world to the birthplace of Acadie.
On this National Acadian Day, I invite all Nova Scotians to experience our vibrant Acadian culture and participate in the activities, events and celebrations taking place across our province. I offer my deepest thanks to the countless volunteers and community leaders who help make these festivities happen.
