Province Awards Contract for Dartmouth General Hospital Parking
Construction of the Dartmouth General Hospital’s parking lot expansion begins this month, as part of the QEII New Generation project.
A contract was awarded to Avondale Construction Ltd. today, April 10, to knock down part of a provincially owned warehouse at 10 Acadia St. adjacent to Dartmouth General Hospital. This project will create more spaces for hospital parking. Currently, the hospital has about 350 parking spaces. Once complete, there will be about 500 parking spaces.
The cost of the contract is $1.4 million.
Along with the Dartmouth General’s expansion and renovations, the QEII New Generation project includes a new cancer centre, outpatient centre, inpatient centre and research and innovation centre at the Halifax Infirmary site. It also includes the construction of a new community outpatient centre in Bayers Lake and one new and one renovated operating room at the Hants Community Hospital in Windsor that has been completed.
The redevelopment project will allow services to be moved out of the Centennial and Victoria buildings on the Victoria General site of the QEII Health Sciences Centre supporting their eventual closure.
