Team Nova Scotia athletes have been training their whole lives for this moment. The skates are sharpened, the skis are waxed and the best young athletes in the province are ready for the upcoming Canada Winter Games in Red Deer.

Nova Scotians are invited to see Team Nova Scotia off in style at a pep rally hosted by Bruce Rainnie, CEO of the Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame. The event will be held on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 1 p.m. in the Kenneth C. Rowe Hall, Pier 21, 1055 Marginal Rd., Halifax.

Team Nova Scotia is sending about 300 athletes, coaches and managers from across the province to the 2019 games, Feb. 15 to March 3.

“Wheelchair basketball is a really awesome sport to play! It is a fast paced, strategic game and it is an integrated sport, which makes it unique," said Dee Osmond, Halifax, a member of Team Nova Scotia's wheelchair basketball team. "The pep rally will be an opportunity for us to share our pride of representing the province of Nova Scotia before we depart for the games.”

At the pep rally, Team Nova Scotia will also unveil uniforms and name the opening ceremony flagbearer.

“Team Nova Scotia athletes have worked hard for many years to prepare and to be the best they can be at their sport,” said Nova Scotia Chef de mission Cathy Burton. “Their passion, hard work and dedication will be showcased in Red Deer and we hope all Nova Scotians will be back home, cheering them on.”

The Canada Games are held every two years, alternating between summer and winter. Nova Scotia has previously hosted the Canada Games in Halifax/Dartmouth (Summer 1969), Cape Breton (Winter 1987) and Halifax (Winter 2011).

The games are key in developing the country’s young athletes, producing the next generation of national, international and Olympic champions.

The 2019 Canada Games will see up to 3,600 athletes, managers and coaches compete in 19 sports.
