Support4Sport Grow Your Game Video Contest Launched

Nova Scotia Provincial Lotteries and Casino Corporation (Jan. 2013 - July 2018)

The Nova Scotia Provincial Lotteries and Casino Corporation (NSPLCC), through its Support4Sport program, and Sport Nova Scotia will give away 10 $1,000 prizes to Nova Scotians across the province and one grand prize of $10,000 to improve sport in Nova Scotian communities.

NSPLCC and Sport Nova Scotia today, July 27, announced the Support4Sport Grow Your Game video contest to celebrate the 10th anniversary of its flagship community program.

"The benefits of sport go a long way. That's why NSPLCC created Support4Sport in 2006," said Bob MacKinnon, president and CEO of NSPLCC. "From playground to podium, we are committed to investing in a healthier Nova Scotia by championing sport through the Support4Sport Program and this contest is a fun way to get Nova Scotians excited about sport in their communities."

Administered by Sport Nova Scotia, Support4Sport has become the largest source of funding for amateur sport in Nova Scotia, raising more than $31.2 million in 10 years and helping thousands of athletes, coaches, officials and community groups grow their game.

Support4Sport funding has been used to develop community and provincial sporting programs, buy sports equipment, and provide training and development opportunities for athletes, coaches and officials.

In 2015-16, 191 athletes received funding, 56 coaches and officials were either funded or got additional training, and 95 community and provincial sport organizations were able to reach more than 125,000 Nova Scotians with their programs.

The Grow Your Game contest asks entrants to create a one-minute video about how they would use $10,000 to benefit sport and their community. Ten videos will be chosen by a committee with representatives from NSPLCC and Sport Nova Scotia, and will be awarded $1,000 each. Nova Scotians will then have a chance to get in on the game by voting to select the grand-prize winner.

"Over the past 10 years the Support4Sport Program has had a transformational impact on amateur sport in Nova Scotia," said Jamie Ferguson, CEO of Sport Nova Scotia. "The Grow Your Game contest is a fun and engaging opportunity for Nova Scotians to celebrate the anniversary of the program, while competing for a chance to win the $10,000 grand prize to benefit sport and their community."

The contest is open to current residents of Nova Scotia who are 19 or older, who are active, affiliate, or associate members of Sport Nova Scotia. Nova Scotians who are 19 or older who are not members are required to have the support from a member or a community sport development co-ordinator from Sport Nova Scotia.

Video submissions are open until midnight on Aug. 21. Voting for the top prize will start on Aug. 29 with the $10,000 winner announced the week of Sept. 19th. More information about the contest including how to upload videos can be found at http://growyourgamecontest.support4sport.ca .
