Premier Recognizes Excellence in Public Service

Each year the province honours the exceptional efforts of public servants who deliver high-quality programs and services to Nova Scotia families, communities and businesses.

Premier Stephen McNeil recognized 21 outstanding public servants today, June 9, with the Premier's Award of Excellence.

"I am so impressed by the remarkable work being done every day by public servants," said Premier McNeil. "Today, we celebrate and thank some outstanding employees who are doing great things. Their work is making positive differences in the lives of our friends and neighbours across the province."

This year's recipients are:

  • Ron Follett, Health and Wellness, a programmer analyst who developed innovative software to make it easier for elderly Nova Scotians to apply for long-term care
  • The MyPATH team, seven employees from Labour and Advanced Education, who developed an online tool that allows Nova Scotia students to apply for financial assistance anytime, anywhere
  • The Diversity Planning Committee, 13 employees from various departments across government, who organized the first Public Service Diversity Leadership Conference to educate public servants on the importance of diversity and inclusion in our workplaces and how we deliver services to Nova Scotians every day

The Premier's Award of Excellence is the most prestigious award a government employee can receive. It symbolizes the outstanding contributions of employees and teams in five criteria:

  • management and career excellence
  • innovation and creativity
  • client service delivery
  • relationship building and partnering
  • healthy workplaces

A selection panel evaluated 12 nominations.

"This award is a high honour and recognizes some of the impressive achievements of our skilled and dedicated public servants," said Public Service Commission Minister Labi Kousoulis. "The recipients of the Premier's Award of Excellence are truly inspirational."
