Nova Scotians Can Offer Input on Recreational Fishing

NOTE: A list of dates and locations for the public meetings follows this release.

Nova Scotians can help ensure fishing regulations remain relevant and effective by taking part in consultations throughout the province.

The meetings to discuss issues begin in Oxford on Tuesday, Nov. 5.

The Recreational Fishing Advisory Council meetings are held annually by the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture to share sportfishing information, research and promote discussion.

"The sportfishing industry is valued at $58 million and attracted 70,000 licensed anglers in 2012," said Fisheries and Aquaculture Minister Keith Colwell. "It's a healthy, outdoor activity which can be enjoyed at a reasonable cost as a lifelong sport by young and old."

Feedback from past meetings brought regulations to help eliminate the spread of invasive species.

There will be six Recreational Fishing Advisory Council meetings throughout the province, from Nov. 5 to 14.
