Lecture to Discuss Complementary, Integrative Medicine

NOTE: A list of sites where the lecture will be available by video conference follows this release.

A cancer specialist will share his perspective on complementary and integrative medicine in cancer treatment and care during the next Cancer Answers lecture, Thursday, Oct. 3.

Organized by Cancer Care Nova Scotia, the lecture will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Classroom 2, level 4, Cape Breton Regional Hospital, 1482 George St., Sydney. Video conferences will be available at 16 sites across the province, as well as select First Nations sites.

The lecture will be presented by Dr. Robert Rutledge, a radiation oncologist with the Capital Health Cancer Care Program.

"Information about how to combine conventional medical care with healthy lifestyle habits and other complementary techniques is absolutely essential for everyone," said Dr. Rutledge. "Science shows that people affected by cancer can influence their health in profound ways, even increasing cure rates for many cancers. During this lecture I'll share what we know."

Cancer Care Nova Scotia, a Department of Health and Wellness program, was created in 1998 to facilitate quality cancer prevention and care for all Nova Scotians. It supports health-care professionals in providing patients with high quality care.

Cancer Care Nova Scotia's work with other organizations and its screening programs raise awareness about the importance of healthy lifestyles to reduce cancer risk, and educate Nova Scotians about available testing, such as Pap tests for cervical cancer and home screening kits for colon cancer.
