A Night of Documentaries has Nature Focus
Film and Creative Industries Nova Scotia and Empire Theatres are celebrating spring by hosting a free screening of three local documentaries focused on nature.
Whale Rescue, Sable Island National Park, and Ice Bear will be shown Wednesday, May 29, at 7 p.m., Empire Theatres Park Lane in Halifax.
Whale Rescue, produced by Tell Tale Productions, follows members of the Maritime Animal Response Society helping marine animals in distress. Each year, there are dozens of reported cases of marine animals tangled in fishing gear or stranded on a beach and the society co-ordinates rescue efforts with government agencies, fisherman and local volunteers.
Sable Island National Park looks at creating a national park on Sable Island. As part of Creative Atlantic's The New Rural 2 series, the documentary examines how to balance potential tourist demand with the need to protect the fragile environment.
Ice Bear, a documentary from Arcadia Entertainment, shows the journey of a young polar bear in his first summer alone as he struggles to survive against climate change. Shot over 12 months in the Canadian arctic, Ice Bear features breathtaking cinematography and captures rarely seen bear behaviour.
The filmmakers will be on hand to introduce their films and take questions from the audience.
Film and Creative Industries Nova Scotia and Empire Theatres Screening Nights are held three times a year to allow local audiences to see homegrown film productions and give local filmmakers a chance to promote their work.
