Erik Christopher Nobbe Appointed Honorary Consul of Norway
Erik Christopher Nobbe is the new Honorary Consul of the Kingdom of Norway in Nova Scotia.
Members of the Consular Corps represent their country's interests and promote a mutually beneficial relationship between their country and the province.
"Honorary Consuls play an important role in advancing our shared interests," said Premier Darrell Dexter. "Nova Scotia is made up of diverse communities and the work of the Consular Corps is vital in fostering positive and productive relationships."
"I look forward to working with local community and business leaders in building upon what is already a vibrant connection between our two countries," said Mr. Nobbe.
Nova Scotia has strong ties to Norway, particularly in the Lunenburg area, which was home to a Norwegian military training facility during the Second World War. A substantial part of Norway's merchant fleet served in the North Sea convoy traffic from Halifax to Britain, supplying the Allied war effort.
Many Norwegians settled on Nova Scotia's South Shore after the war.
Mr. Nobbe is a graduate of Acadia University's business program. His career in international sales and business development began with Clearwater Seafoods. He moved to Nova Scotia Business Inc. and, most recently, returned to the seafood business as director of european sales for Open Blue Global Services.
Mr. Nobbe has coached minor hockey and baseball, is a past-president of the Scandinavian Society of Nova Scotia and a venue team leader for the 2011 Canada Games.
An Honorary Consular Officer is a voluntary position. The appointment is for three years and is renewable. There are 30 members in the Consular Corps of Nova Scotia.
