Premier Congratulates Saint Mary's on Winning AUS Championship

Premier Darrell Dexter is extending congratulations to the Saint Mary's University basketball team for winning the Atlantic University Sport women's basketball championship in Fredericton on Sunday, March 10.

The women Huskies defeated the St. Francis Xavier X-Women 90-57 to win the AUS title and will represent the division at the CIS championship in Regina this weekend.

"Student athletes work hard all season long to be leaders on the basketball court and also work equally hard in the classroom to be leaders in our communities," said Premier Dexter. "I am very proud of all the athletes, coaches and managers that support the teams as they compete on the national stage."

The Huskies were led by local guard Justine Colley, who had 30 points in the championship game and was named tournament Most Valuable Player.

"I know everyone in her home community of East Preston is proud of Justine's accomplishments this year, and all Nova Scotians will be cheering loudly in support of our local team this weekend."
