PREMIER'S OFFICE--Premiers' Meeting to Ensure Canada's Economic Prospects Remain Strong

  • ---------------------------------------------------------------Canada's premiers will meet in Halifax on Nov. 22 and 23 to discuss global economic trends and their impact on provinces and territories.

"We think it's critical that as leaders, we consider the state of the international economy – in particular the implications of the state of the European union, and post-election United States, Canada's largest trading partner," said Premier Darrell Dexter, chair of the Council of the Federation. "Premiers need to assess and consider global implications for our provinces and territories."

Mark Carney, governor of the Bank of Canada and chairman of the G20 Financial Stability Board, will attend to present the bank's outlook for the global and Canadian economies and inflation in Canada.

Premiers know that expanding international markets is critical to Canada's economic recovery. The premiers recently wrapped up a successful trade mission to China, demonstrating the key role provinces have in international trade.
