New Art Bank Purchases Unveiled

Nineteen Nova Scotian artists and craftspeople were honoured today, Sept. 5, when their work became part of the Nova Scotia Art Bank collection. The additions were unveiled at a reception held at the Nova Scotia Public Archives.

Communities, Culture and Heritage Minister Leonard Preyra joined artists and local community members to reveal the new purchases.

"Nova Scotia's artistic excellence was showcased and celebrated tonight," said Mr. Preyra. "Through collecting, preserving, and making art accessible and part of the provincial Art Bank, we ensure Nova Scotia's heritage is advanced and enhanced for future generations."

The art will be available for public viewing until Sept. 26.

Established in 1975, the Nova Scotia Art Bank has supported the careers of local artists for more than 30 years. Works are added annually to the collection based on recommendations from a jury of artists. The collection consists of almost 1,800 pieces of art displayed in government offices throughout the province.

Applications for the 2012-13 Art Bank Purchase Program will be accepted until Jan. 15. More information about the application process, artists and the latest additions to the art bank are available at www.gov.ns.ca/cch/investing/artsns-funding/artbank/.
