Tall Ships Sail to Outports Across the Province

Tall Ships Nova Scotia 2012 continues at outports across the province today, July 25.

The fleet split following the Parade of Sail in Halifax, and ships have sailed north to Port Hawkesbury and south to Lunenburg.

"We are showcasing the best of Nova Scotia throughout this event to our citizens and visitors to the province," said Percy Paris, Minister of Economic and Rural Development and Tourism. "Tall Ships represents the heart and pride of Nova Scotia, and is a significant economic generator for our province."

"I am pleased that the federal government is helping to bring the Tall Ships to some of Nova Scotia's most scenic harbours," said Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence. "With an anticipated economic impact of $30 million, the 10-day 2012 Tall Ships Festival is a welcome addition to Nova Scotia's tourism season, and an important opportunity for us all to showcase Nova Scotia to the world."

The following ships will be in Lunenburg today and Thursday, July 26, Amistad, Lynx, Harvey Gamage, Providence, Pride of Baltimore, Roseway, Unicorn, and Larinda. This fleet will then sail from Lunenburg to Shelburne for events Saturday, July 28 and Sunday, July 29.

The following ships will be in Port Hawkesbury today and Thursday, July 26, Appledore IV, Appledore V, HMS Bounty, Gazela, Picton Castle, Peacemaker, Sorca, and Theodore Too.

This fleet will split and sail to Pictou and Pugwash Saturday, July 28 and Sunday, July 29. Appledore IV, HMS Bounty, Gazela will join Ship Hector in Pictou. Ships in Pugwash will include, Appledore V, Picton Castle, Peacemaker and Sorca. Theodore Too will be in Pictou on July 28 and Pugwash on July 29.

"We had an incredible event on the Halifax waterfront that provided an opportunity to introduce Taste of Nova Scotia members, an eclectic collection of musical performances, cannon fire, and the legacy of the War of 1812 to all who attended," said Colin MacLean, president and CEO, Waterfront Development.

"The outports program will see local culture, cuisine, and music meet the fleet of Tall Ships to put on spectacular events in each region."
