Tourism Campaign Ramps up in Liverpool

Visitors to Nova Scotia are learning about the exciting things to see and do in Liverpool through the Visit My Nova Scotia tourism campaign.

"International media have named Nova Scotia one of the top global destinations for 2012," said Percy Paris, Minister of Economic and Rural Development and Tourism. "This year's exceptional festivals and events, including Privateer Days, make Nova Scotia the place to be this summer."

Throughout the tourism season, the Visit My Nova Scotia campaign is promoting destinations across the province, including Liverpool, through CTV, the Chronicle Herald, novascotia.com and social media.

The province also promoted Nova Scotia festivals and events, including Privateers Days, at the Toronto Saltscapes Expo, June 21 to 24.

"Government's support of the annual summer celebration should provide a much-needed boost to the community and its economy following the announcement last week that the Bowater mill is closing," said Mr. Paris.

The annual Privateer Days summer festival is a celebration of Liverpool's colourful privateer heritage. This year's festival, from June 28 to July 1, features a Geocaching event, live music, a historic graveyard tour, and fun for the whole family.

As part of the CTV Morning Live Liverpool show, which aired today, June 26, host Cyril Lunney became a privateer for a day.

Liverpool will also host the annual Nova Scotia Music Week from Nov. 8 to 11 and, a few kilometres down the road, the community of Brooklyn turns into a big block party for the Queens County Seafest, Aug. 24 to 26.

Along with the Tall Ships festival, the return of Bluenose II, and the Telus World Skins Golf Game, there are hundreds of exciting events happening across Nova Scotia this year.

The Visit My Nova Scotia campaign is encouraging all Nova Scotians to become ambassadors for the province by inviting friends and family to come and visit this year.
