Commission Postpones Antigonish, Sydney Meetings
The commission reviewing Nova Scotia's electoral boundaries is postponing public meetings previously scheduled for Antigonish (Wednesday, June 6) and Sydney (Thursday, June 7).
This is in response to numerous requests from Nova Scotians to have more time to digest the recommendations of the commission's interim report.
The public will be notified when the Electoral Boundaries Commission meetings are re-scheduled.
The commission would like to hear from Nova Scotians about its interim report and encourages people to submit their views www.nselectoralboundaries.ca or by phoning, toll-free, 1-855-628-5550. All submissions forwarded to the commission will be viewed as public documents and may become part of its published reports.
Feedback from the meetings and submissions will be used to compile the commission's final report, due Aug. 31.
Under the House of Assembly Act, an electoral boundary review is required after every 10-year census to reflect population shifts and to adjust electoral boundaries, if necessary. Terms of reference were set by a select committee of the House of Assembly after consultation around the province.
