Communities, Culture and Heritage (Jan. 2011 - Aug. 2021)

Plans are underway to welcome Nova Scotians and visitors to a series of Titanic-related events this week and next week.

"I'd like to thank all of our partners for their contribution," said David Wilson, Minister of Communities, Culture and Heritage. "Our partners continue to show leadership in planning a variety of events to mark an important moment in our history, the sinking of the Titanic."

The Bedford Institute of Oceanography and Emera will host a free public seminar called Titanic Immortal on Monday, April 9 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the institute. Guest speakers Steve Blasco, Alan Ruffman, Kevin Barrett, Garry Shutlak and Blair Beed will explore a range of topics from scientific discoveries to diaries of Haligonians from 1912. The seminar will include two panel discussions on increasing awareness about the Halifax connection to the Titanic and the ship's seemingly immortal story. John Boileau, Rob Gordon, Henrietta Mann and Brian Cuthbertson will participate on the panels.

The play Titanic: the Untold Story takes place until Tuesday, April 10 at the Alderney Landing Theatre in Dartmouth and a musical tribute, And the Band Played On, takes place on Tuesday, April 10 at the Rebecca Cohn Auditorium in Halifax. The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, Halifax, will host Depths of Sorrow on Monday, April 9 and Living Titanic - in Science, Story and Song on Tuesday, April 10. A Night to Remember: Titanic Film Festival takes place Monday, April 9 to Friday, April 13 in Halifax at the Dalhousie Art Gallery, Nova Scotia Archives and Empire Park Lane Theatre.
