Premier Expresses Sadness Over Death of Senator Fred Dickson

Premier Darrell Dexter today, Feb.9, expressed sadness over the passing of Senator Fred Dickson, who died early this morning at the age of 74.

"Senator Dickson was a man of incredible accomplishment and a great champion on behalf of Nova Scotia," said Premier Dexter. "I had the opportunity to work closely with him on Lower Churchill. He was instrumental in mobilizing his federal colleagues to get behind that project, and I am thankful to be able to move that work forward."

A lawyer and politician, Senator Dickson played an important role in securing energy agreements with the federal government in the 1980s. He was appointed to the Senate by Prime Minister Stephen Harper in late 2008, and took office in January 2009.

"On behalf of all Nova Scotians, my deepest sympathies to Senator Dickson's family, friends and colleagues at this difficult time. He will be missed."
