Photo Contest Winners Featured in Anglers' Handbook
Five talented photographers have landed a spot in this year's 2012 Angler's Handbook.
Fisheries and Aquaculture Minister Sterling Belliveau announced the winners of the department's annual contest today, Jan. 26. He said it is a great way to generate interest in sportsfishing and recognize the photographic talent of Nova Scotians.
"I am delighted that so many people provided submissions to our photo contest," said Mr. Belliveau. "Sportsfishing is a very popular outdoor recreational activity that can be enjoyed throughout the year by Nova Scotians of all ages."
More than 150 photos were entered in the 2011 Fishin' Nova Scotia photo contest, with the winners in each category included in the handbook. Anglers were invited to submit their best sportsfishing photos in five categories: species, young anglers, scenic, general and family.
The winners are:
- Sean Sears, Clarks Harbour, best of show category
- Ross Jones, Dartmouth, scenic category
- Greg Stevens, Chester, general category
- Peter Poole, Antigonish, species category
- Joe Harvie, Baddeck, young anglers category
- Sean Sears, Clarks Harbour, family category
Mr. Sears has received a general fishing licence for life as the grand prize and will enjoy the benefits of recreational fishing throughout Nova Scotia annually for free.
The Anglers' Handbook and Summary of Regulations for the 2012 fishing season is available where licences are sold and will be available by mid-March online at gov.ns.ca/fish/sportfishing/angling .
