Nova Scotians Invited to Discuss, Provide Input on Recreational Fishing

NOTE: A list of dates and locations of public meetings follow this release.

Nova Scotians are invited to discuss angling regulations and provide input on sportsfishing issues at a series of meetings throughout the province this month.

The Recreation Fishing Advisory Council meetings are an opportunity for the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture to share information on research, fish stocking programs, education and extension programs, and discuss regulatory issues with the public.

"Sportsfishing generates about $94 million annually in economic activity; it is one of the most popular outdoor activities," said Fisheries and Aquaculture Minister Sterling Belliveau. "It is important that we monitor the health of our sport fishery so we can develop and change regulations which conserve, enhance, protect and provide increased sportsfishing experiences for Nova Scotian anglers and tourists from around the world."

There will be six Recreational Fishing Advisory Council meetings throughout the province from Nov. 7 to 17.

Information on angling and meeting dates can be found at www.gov.ns.ca/fish/sportfishing or by calling 902-485-5056.
