Premier Recognizes ZIM's Contributions to Nova Scotia Economy

Premier Darrell Dexter visited ZIM Integrated Shipping Services Ltd. in Haifa, Israel, today, Oct. 25, to tour the facility and recognize the company's 40-year relationship with the Halifax Port Authority.

"Next April marks four decades of business between our two regions -- a milestone that should be celebrated," said Premier Dexter. "Today's visit was an opportunity to meet with senior executives of the shipping line, including president and CEO Rafi Danieli, to learn about their experiences in Halifax, discuss opportunities to grow the business and promote the Port of Halifax as a key entry point into North America."

The premier noted that Nova Scotia's role as a gateway to international trade relies on the global connections that are made possible through relationships like the one the province and the Port of Halifax have with ZIM.

"I want to thank the team at ZIM for choosing to do business in Nova Scotia," said Premier Dexter. "The province looks forward to many more years of continued co-operation and support with the shipping line."

ZIM stops in Halifax on a weekly basis to offload cargo from its Asia line, including such items as furniture, building materials and textiles.

Karen Oldfield, president and CEO of the Halifax Port Authority, joined the premier in Israel to mark the event.

The visit is part of a seven-day trade and investment mission to Israel and the West Bank to explore opportunities for growth and investment and build relationships with the region. The mission wraps up Wednesday, Oct. 26.
