Museums to Extend Evening Hours for Cruise Ship Passengers
The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic and the Museum of Natural History will remain open to the public until 8 p.m. today, Aug. 29, to accommodate cruise ship passengers waylaid by tropical storm Irene.
The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic is displaying Hello Sailor! Gay Life on the Ocean Wave, an exhibit that explores gay culture as part of seafaring life from the 1950s to present day. The Canadian component of the exhibit offers perspectives from local members of the lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, transgendered and intersex, or LGBTI, community.
The Museum of Natural History is displaying its first permanent exhibit and interactive space in almost 20 years. Netukulimk [Nah-DOO-ga-limk], a Mi'kmaq philosophy, describes the connection between all living things. The concept crosses cultures and generations and refers to individual experiences harmonizing the natural and human worlds. Focused on Nova Scotia's forests, the space features six larger-than-life multimedia units designed to engage visitors through touch, sight and sound.
