Deloitte to Review South Shore Regional School Board

Deloitte Inc. will conduct the performance review of the South Shore Regional School Board.

The Deloitte review team includes Paula Gallagher and Michael Hodgett. Both Ms. Gallagher and Mr. Hodgett have extensive experience conducting governance reviews in the public sector.

The process involves reviewing reports and key documents, and conducting interviews with school board members, school board senior staff and Department of Education senior officials.

Education Minister Ramona Jennex announced the performance review on Aug. 4 as a response to serious concerns about the actions of some board members before a March 30 meeting on school reviews.

The performance review will address two primary questions:

• Did the board adhere to all provincial legislation, policy and regulations, as well as board by-laws and policies?
• Does the board exhibit other good governance practices, such as respectful and professional behavior, effective use of information in decision-making, and transparency of discussions?

The review will begin on Monday, Aug. 22, and will take about 10 weeks to complete. The terms of reference for the review are available at www.ednet.ns.ca .
