Agriculture Workshops Offered
Nova Scotians will have the opportunity to discover and enhance their agriculture and business skills Monday, July 25 at workshops in Northville, Kings Co., as part of the Celebration of Small-Scale Farming. The event is being held at Northville Farm Heritage Centre.
"Farming and agri-businesses are vital to growing Nova Scotia's economy and the success of many rural communities," said Agriculture Minister John MacDonell.
"This is a valuable opportunity for Nova Scotians looking to get involved in small-scale agriculture. Farmers can share their experiences and knowledge of increasing the value of products, keeping costs low and doing business with the environment in mind."
Farmers will lead a variety of workshops and demonstrations of modern small-scale farming practices, technology, farm business management and marketing:
- season extension in vegetables
- pastured poultry
- goat nutrition
- compost tea for small fruit
- finishing market lambs
- animal-powered farming
- marketing farm products
- permaculture and farm design
- women's panel on finding a place in the farm business
- beekeeping
- buying used farm equipment
- safe animal handling
- wood shingle making
- blacksmithing
- grafting fruit trees
- seed saving
Tours of fruit, vegetable and poultry farms are offered as part of the program.
