Province Recognizes Michelin's Contributions to Economy

Premier Darrell Dexter visited Michelin's North America headquarters in Greenville, S.C., today, June 29, to tour the facility and thank the company for its contributions to Nova Scotia's economy.

"For more than 40 years, Michelin has been creating good jobs for thousands of Nova Scotians and helping drive the province's economy," said Premier Dexter. "Michelin is a company that values its employees, respects its customers and takes an innovative approach to doing business. This makes Michelin a true economic leader in our province, and beyond.

"I want to thank the Michelin team for choosing to do business in Nova Scotia, and we look forward to many more years of continued co-operation and support."

Michelin has plants in Bridgewater, Granton, Pictou Co., and Waterville, Kings Co., employing close to 3,500 Nova Scotians. In its 42 years of operations in the province, Michelin has built more than 224 million tires.

At the Nova Scotia Export Achievement Awards in May, Nova Scotia Business Inc. presented Michelin with a special award marking 40 years of exporting excellence.

In honour of that award, the province commissioned a one-of-a-kind piece of Nova Scotian Crystal, which Premier Dexter presented to Michelin chairman and president Dick Wilkerson in Greenville today.
