Nova Scotia First in 3-D Advertising

Toronto area moviegoers are seeing spectacular, 3-D shots of Nova Scotia in a ground-breaking tourism advertisement. Nova Scotia is the first province in Canada to use the technology in a tourism marketing campaign in theatres.

Beginning this week, a 3-D ad encouraging people to visit Nova Scotia will run in advance of 3-D films in select cinemas in the Toronto area. It will play for an audience of more than one million people during previews of Pirates of the Caribbean, Thor and Kung Fu Panda 2 until July 7.

"This 3-D ad will captivate audiences and give them a unique view of the province's breathtaking beauty," said Percy Paris, Minister of Economic and Rural Development and Tourism. "Nova Scotia is a leader in tourism marketing. We are using innovative ways to attract potential visitors to the province that will build our tourism industry and create new jobs that grow our economy."

Featuring majestic aerial views, the ad captures Nova Scotia's spectacular seacoast and landscape. It includes unique views of iconic destinations, including the Bay of Fundy, Peggy's Cove, Halifax and the Cape Breton Highlands.

The ad was created by advertising agency Colour, and shot by Arcadia Entertainment, a television production company based in Halifax. The footage will also be featured in Canada Over the Edge, a travel documentary series airing on the EQHD channel this fall.

Arcadia Field Director Andrew Killawee supervised the Nova Scotia aerial shoot.

"There are so many regions of our province left to explore," said Mr. Killawee. "I've lived here more than 30 years, and at times I thought for sure I was flying above another part of the world. Too often we look abroad for magic. It is right here in our backyard. As a Nova Scotian, I am fiercely proud to work on this project."

Five Nova Scotia episodes will air in the series and will include stories from Nova Scotians featured in the provincial tourism ads.
