Book Part of Nova Scotia Curriculum
A new children's book commissioned by Nova Scotia's lieutenant-governor will help students learn about responsible government.
Lt.-Gov. Mayann Francis launched the book today, June 9, at Government House. Titled Angel and the Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia, it introduces children to the role and official duties of the lieutenant-governor.
"With this book it is my hope that the role of the lieutenant-governor can contribute to a heightened sense of citizenship, responsibility to democracy and interest in our political system among young people," said Lt.-Gov. Francis. "I am delighted that the project is now complete and will be made available in schools throughout the province."
In the book Angel, Lt.-Gov. Francis's cat, offers tips and interesting facts to engage children in wanting to learn more about democracy and how government works.
The book will be used as a learning resource for the unit on citizenship in Grade 3 Social Studies. It is published in English, French, Mi'kmaq and Gaelic.
