Province Invests in Queens County

A major employer in the Queens County region is increasing its competitive advantage and maintaining good jobs, with support from the province.

Premier Darrell Dexter announced a $1-million loan to White Point Beach Resort, today, June 1.

"White Point Beach Resort is one of the largest employers in the community and an important contributor to the local economy," said Premier Dexter. "This loan will support 175 jobs and help the company grow its business. This is what jobsHere, the province's plan to grow the economy, is all about."

With the support of this loan, White Point will invest in capital upgrades to rooms, recreation facilities, technology, security, and new marketing initiatives.

"Government is working with our partners in every region, including Queens County, to build the tourism industry and provide visitors with exceptional experiences and services that distinguish Nova Scotia as a top travel destination," said Premier Dexter.

White Point Beach Resort is also investing $400,000 into the project. Although improvements are done routinely to enhance the resort, this loan will allow White Point to improve quality and operational efficiency.

"As a year-round tourism and conference destination, White Point has positively contributed to the economy of Queens County and Nova Scotia since 1928," said Danny Morton, White Point Beach Resort's general manager. "We are grateful for this opportunity to continue providing facilities and services which will exceed our guests' expectations."

The province's investment comes from the Industrial Expansion Fund. The province recently announced that a new modern fund will be created to replace the IEF. During the transition period to the new fund, all investment proposals will continue to be considered on their merits.
