Nova Scotia Welcomes National 4-H Conference

Members of 4-H in the province are getting ready to welcome their counterparts from other provinces when the 80th annual conference and annual general meeting of the Canadian 4-H Council takes place in Wolfville, June 1 to 5.

About 150 4-H leaders, supporters and members from across Canada are gathering to attend workshops and discuss social media, volunteerism and the future of the national 4-H program.

"Many fine leaders in rural communities have had 4-H training. That's strong evidence that 4-H is a valuable leadership program for young people," said John MacDonell, Minister of Agriculture. "We can be proud of the excellent 4-H program in our province and that Nova Scotia is the host for this prestigious event."

The delegates will experience Nova Scotia hospitality at its finest when touring the Annapolis Valley, sampling locally- produced food and attending an evening of entertainment provided by Nova Scotia's 4-H members.

"Our council is pleased to host this national meeting. We look forward to learning more about 4-H program delivery across the country," said Don Conrod, president of Nova Scotia's 4-H Council.

The Canadian 4-H Council promotes the 4-H program through national awareness initiatives, assists communications and information-sharing among provincial 4-H programs, develops recruitment and resource materials, organizes national and international conferences, exchanges, and scholarships.

The Canadian 4-H Council meetings will be held at the Old Orchard Inn and are jointly hosted by the Canadian and Nova Scotia 4-H Councils.
