Province Supports Cape Breton's Right Some Good Events

Deputy Premier Frank Corbett announced today, May 16, the province will provide $250,000 to support the Right Some Good Foodie Adventure in Cape Breton this summer.

The events, which will include top chefs from around the world, will showcase the island as a culinary travel destination and help build the region's economy.

"The province is proud to support the Right Some Good Foodie Adventure, which will allow visitors to enjoy Cape Breton's rich culture and heritage in spectacular island settings," said Mr. Corbett. "This series of culinary events supports the pillars of our provincial jobsHere strategy by promoting creativity, skills and innovation, which will help create good jobs to grow Nova Scotia's economy."

Ten world-class chefs from far-reaching countries such as Peru, Hong Kong and Switzerland, have been invited to provide amazing culinary visitor experiences across Cape Breton, and share their skills and knowledge with local chefs.

A select number of culinary students from across Canada will also take part in the events.

Organizers are holding a contest to decide which of these junior chefs will participate. Entrants must provide an essay on why they should be selected and enter a recipe using an ingredient unique to Cape Breton.

"This magnificent foodie adventure shows a new side of Cape Breton while championing local food producers, suppliers and communities in sustainable, profitable ways," said Mary Tulle, CEO of Destination Cape Breton Association. "We know that culinary is a key motivator to bring people to our area. This will allow us to market Cape Breton Island in new and exciting ways."

"We are delighted to bring this incredible event home to Cape Breton," said Pearleen Mofford, event founder. "We know that there is nothing like this anywhere else in the world and we believe that we will show an entirely new side of the island, bringing people from near and far to share in the experience."

The events will be held in 10 communities across the island from August 25 to Sept. 4.
