Premier to Discuss Transfers, Energy, Health Care at Atlantic Meeting
Atlantic Canada's premiers will gather this weekend to discuss opportunities for co-operation to improve the economy, create green energy and improve the lives of the people of the region.
The 19th session of the 2011 Council of Atlantic Premiers, will meet Sunday, May 15 and Monday, May 16 in Sussex, N.B.
"The four Atlantic Premiers have a shared interest in making life better for Atlantic Canadian families," said Premier Darrell Dexter. "Quite simply, we are stronger if we work together to make this happen."
The premiers will discuss further collaboration on federal transfer renewal in addition to health care, energy -- including the Atlantic Energy Gateway -- and bulk purchasing to lower costs.
Premier Dexter will encourage support for Irving Shipbuilding's bid for the National Shipbuilding Procurement Strategy.
"Atlantic Canada economically, historically and literally, has been shaped by the sea," said Premier Dexter. "We need to capitalize on this incredible opportunity that could lead to economic prosperity for the entire region."
The Council of Atlantic Premiers began in May 2000 when the premiers expressed their desire to co-operate for the benefit Atlantic Canada residents.
